Dear Santa... James's Xmas Wish List

17 December 2013  |

Contributor, James Smurthwaite, writes his letter to Santa, picking the 5 products that are sure to have him rocking around the Christmas tree in 9 days time

1. Shoretrax pump track

My tenancy agreement forbids me from grabbing a mattock and re-shaping my back garden into a pumptrack paradise, fortunately the folks at Shoretrax have a perfect solution, a North Shore inspired wooden one.

Featured at the Tweedlove Festival and even on The Gadget Show on TV, the raised tracks are portable, easy to assemble, and a heck of a lot of fun!

I know it might be quite a big ask for Santa to fit one in his sack (and even harder to fit down the chimney), but I've been a good boy this year, so I'm sure he'll find a way.

2.Troy Lee Jersey

There seems to be a disturbing trend this year amongst the hipsters that now flood our streets, hideous Christmas jumpers. Having an overweight robin in a Christmas hat plastered over your chest doesn't make you ironic, it makes you look silly.

But I'm of the attitude, if you can't beat them, join them. Whilst i would never stoop to their level of the knitted nightmares, I will happily wear the equally garish and distasteful, Troy Lee Designs GP Air Cyclops.

Nothing would make me happier than gently falling into my Queen's Speech inspired food coma, on the family sofas, wearing this hideously bright jersey, listening to my parents moan about how they don't understand fashion anymore.

It's in Christmas colours as well… sort of.

3. DVO Emerald

Call me a sucker for advertising, but combine CG with a lurid green fork, and it makes for something I really want to have on my bike!

Designed to be super tuneable, ultra plush and coming with a reassuring two year warranty, the Emerald fork will soon be flying off shelves.

The only reason I've not bought one already is the almighty price tag, I reckon that Santa's elves can magic one up for me for free though!

4.Endura Baa Baa Base Layer

The worst of the Winter weather has held off so far this year, but I've no doubt that sub-zero riding conditions are just around the corner.

For this reason I've picked Endura's 100% Merino wool, Baa Baa base layer. It works even when wet and is machine washable, making it perfectly practical, on top of this, its slim, lightweight design means you'll be able to avoid judgement from the MTB fashion police.

5. Ticket to Queensland

Actually, on second thoughts, forget the base layer, I might just skip Winter entirely.

As shown in Not Bad, Queenstown is a haven for riding with loads of unexplored potential, far removed from the usual MTB holiday destinations.

Just make sure it's a one way ticket please Santa, I don't think I'll be coming back!
